District B is Basically the Seattle Area

Essay Contest!

Each year District 19B has an Essay Contest for youth who wish to travel from District 19B to another country. First prize is $1,600 toward a YEP travel package! 2nd Prize is $1,300 & 3rd Prize is $1,100! Wow! Stipends of $900 are also available to others who enter on a limited basis.

Multiple District 19 consists of British Columbia, Canada, Washington State and Northern Idaho. The Seattle area's District B is one of nine districts that make up Multiple District 19. Our district is comprised of 37 Lions and Lioness clubs divided into six Zones. We are also proud sponsors of three LEO Clubs. The heart of District B is the City of Seattle. From there we extend north to city of Stanwood and south we include the city of Des Moines, Washington.

The history of Youth Exchange in Multiple District 19 is rooted in District B. We have been active participants and planners since 1961. Annually, we have sent as well as hosted youth from several countries around the world. Our most successful exchanges have been Japan, Australia and New Zealand, but we regularly exchange with Peru, Finland, Germany, Italy, Norway, Great Britain, France and others.

District B has formed it's own Youth Exchange Foundation to help plan and fund the program in our area. We are committed to the exchange of our young people and their cultures. We believe that only on a one-to-one basis will we truly understand each other. We believe that only through understanding will there be peace around the world.

We need families of high character who wish to learn about a culture from a foreign land. Stipends are available to host families sponsored by clubs in District 19B.

We need young people between the ages of 16 (17 to some countries) and 22 who wish to become short-term "ambassadors" to a foreign country. Limited stipends are available to traveling youth sponsored by clubs in District 19B.

We need people who share our vision to become Lions in their own community. Our motto is "We Serve". There are many areas where you as a Lions Club member can help. Youth Exchange is just one of many.
